About Naomi Scott

Naomi Grace Scott, popularly known as Naomi Scott is an English actress and singer of Indian Gujarati descent born on May 6, 1993, in Hounslow. She rose to fame with her performance in the Disney Channel Original Movie Lemonade Mouth and sci-fi television series Terra Nova in 2011. 

However, one of her most outstanding performances was when she played Princess Jasmine in Disney’s musical live-action fantasy film Aladdin in 2019. She won Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie Actress in Teen Choice Awards 2019 for her role in the film. 

Personal life

Scott’s mother, Usha Scott, was born in Uganda and moved to the United Kingdom when she was young. Meanwhile, her father, Christopher Scott, is English and a UK native. When Naomi was just 8 years old, they transferred to Woodford, London where her parents became pastors at the Bridge Church. 

When it comes to her education, Naomi attended Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, Essex. She had to leave school when she was taking her A-classes due to a conflict of schedule during filming her character in Terra Nova.

In 2014, Naomi married English footballer Jordan Spence after four years of dating. 

Career

Naomi was first discovered by Kéllé Bryan, a British singer from the group Eternal. Bryan signed Naomi as her client and got to work with British songwriters and producers Xenomania. 

She landed her first major role in 2010 in Life Bites, a Disney Channel UK series and got another role for the Disney Channel original film Lemonade Mouth as Mohini ‘Mo’ Banjaree in 2011. She then was cast as Maddy Shannon in Terra Nova. 

In 2014, Naomi was cast as Ryoko in the movie The Martian. A lot of her scenes were removed for the final cut which effectively made her an extra in the film. By 2015, she landed the role of Kimberly Hart also known as the Pink Ranger in the Power Rangers movie which was released in 2017.  

It was in 2019 when she starred as Princess Jasmine in the live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin. Naomi received positive feedback for her performance, especially during the scene where she sang ‘Speechless’. Apart from the successful performance of the actress, the movie was a box office hit as well, earning more than $1billion dollars in total. 

In the same year, Naomi also starred as one of the three angels in Charlie’s Angels. The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.
